Animus Survey.

Tue Nov 24, 2009, 7:12 PM
After learning so much about :iconacpadilla: 's Strange Strays by drawing them and reading the survey, I decided to write a similar interview about the main characters of my animesque cartoon series. For whoever reads this, enjoy and remember, any facts presented might be changed later. That's just the way I work. Careful, the following is barely edited for grammatical errors.

Stolen from :iconacpadilla: which was stolen from

1. What are your characters names?
"Hello world! My name is Tenny and this is my brother, Tres!" said Tenny in an enthusiastic voice.

Trace facepalmed, "It's Trace, not Tres," he said, "I'm not a number."

"but Trace and Tres are homophones," replied Tenny, "what makes you think I was spelling it wrong with my voice?"

"It's called 'medium awareness'" retorted Trace.

2. What are your characters name in another language?
"Umm... Deisey? I think," said Tenny.

"Sand," said Trace.

"Sand?" said Tenny, "How is that foreign?"

"Figure it out yourself," replied Trace.

(Note: San is three in Japanese, sand is a near homophone of it.)

3. How old are they?

"That's actually a complex question for us," said trace, "Both me and Ten are literally 15 years old, but since we passed the Cartoon Competency Exam, we're legally adult enough to get totally hammered at a bar. As for how old I look, I say somewhere between 12 and 14."

"I guess because of my name," Tenny said, "'he' intended for me to look like a ten-year-old."

4. What are your characters race/species?

"A type of cartoon character," said Trace, "I've heard conflicting stories wither we were supposed to be a type of dog or cat. Hey Ten, didn't you try to ask 'Him' that question?"

"I did once," said Tenny, "He just yelled, "WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT YOU TO BE!" and smacked me across the room."

(Note: They are refereeing to their fictional creator, Nicholas Einks, who is very much a jerk.)

5. Do they have a crush?
"..Ummmm" said Tenny, he was thinking hard while being sort of embarrassed about the question.

"I though it was love at first sight when I ran into this one cartoon rabbit," said Trace, "Our date was memorable. I showed her the art of winning big at the Midways, she took me on a wine tour. Unfortunately, it turned out that she was one of the assassins sent by the Animus corporation. When she couldn't kill me and I refused to kill her, she took out a bomb and blew herself up. We never spoke since."

6. Do they have many friends?
"Unfortunately," said Trace, "due to the fact We live in a world where trusting the wrong person means certain death, it's hard for me to be friends with anyone. Heck, the only person I could call a friend is Ten here."

"That's not necessarily true," Tenny reply,"There's Shi, Chrims, Brunes, oh and that Jerry human."

"I know," said Trace, "but there's something I don't trust about them."

7. What planet are your characters from?
"Earth," said Trace, "Next question."

8. Do your characters like to eat?
"Yes," said Tenny, "We just don't have enough money to eat at a proper restaurant."

9. What are their favorite foods?
"I used to like ramen," said Tenny, "I've been eating it so much recently that I sort of got sick of it however."

"I have my basic 4 favorites," said Trace, "Pizza, tacos, hamburgers, and chocolate bars."

10. What are their favorite drinks?

"Oh crap," though Trace, "Why did they have to ask that now?"

"Hey Ten," said Trace, "You have a $1.25?"

"I think," said Tenny, "Hold on."

Suddenly Trace began spazzing out, with bloodshot eyes bulging while revealing a yellow iris on the left side, "I NEED A DOLLAR TWENTY-FIVE! I NEED A DOLLAR TWENTY-FIVE! I NEED A DOLLAR TWENTY-FIVE!" he yelled over and over.

"Here, take it." Tenny said somewhat frightened, change in hand. Trace snatched up the change and raced out of the interview room and into the lobby.

"God!" said Tenny, "With that type of behavior, you'd expect him to be buying drugs not cola, but yeah, my brother has that bad of a soda addiction. Me, I'm sorta a fruit punch kind of guy."

11. Are your characters annoying?

"Just between you and me," said Tenny, "My brother does not like thinking things through and has got us into trouble numerous times by pulling a Leeroy. He also like to act cynical, thinks it makes him look cool when it just makes him a jerk."

(Note: Tenny is referring to Leeroy Jenkins, a World of Warcraft player where in a video, rushed into enemy territory without the aid of his group. This resulted in his group getting killed trying to save him.)

12. Name 5 most annoying things about your characters.

(Note: Trace is a cynical acting individual who does not like to think, is overconfident of his abilities and is a bit of a jerk, oh and there's the soda addiction. Tenny, on the other hand, Is a bit on the gullible side, a little too cheerful at times, can be seen to some as a little too cute acting, plus he's too nice and trusting in a setting were most cannot be trusted.)

Around this time, Trace came back in with a 20 ounce bottle of cola. He was almost finished, but has calmed down.

13. Are your characters hated?

"Keh," scoffed Trace, "Pretty much everyone is trying to kill us these days, If that's not hate, nothing is."

14. Are your characters loved?

"I... certainly hope so," said Tenny looking depressed, "Despite our current situation, I'd like to think that there's someone out there that loves me."

"I..." said Trace before thinking, "Don't say it Trace! Do you realize how many yaoi fangirls would enjoy twisting those words?"

"...uh... understand how you feel," Trace finished his sentence.

15. Are they emo/goth?

"Depends on your definition of emo," said Trace, "Hell, I know some people who honestly thinks that you're emo if you ever get depressed."

"But trust us, we're not emo," Tenny continued, "We would have slit our wrists a long time ago if we were."

16. Are they straight, bisexual, or gay?

"Straight," both Trace and Tenny said in unison.

"That probably wouldn't stop the yaoi fangirls writing fanfics about us..."

"LA LA LA LA LA," said Tenny acting all juvenile while covering his ears and closing his eyes, "I"M NOT LISTENING, I'M NOT LISTENING!"

17. Name 3 hobbies.

"Playing video games, buying and selling on internet auctions, being a nuisance on the imageboards," Trace said.

"Reading comics, making strange video mesh ups of different cartoons, I also am an amateur voice actor, I mainly act in the various abridged cartoon series though," Tenny said.

18. Are your characters normal?

"We're not even normal for cartoon characters," said Trace, "That's why they want us dead, they think we're too dangerous to be alive."

19. Are your characters attractive?

"I'd say I am," Said Trace brushing his hair with his fingers while trying his best to look sexy.

"I'm not sure," said Tenny, "but I did have girls tell me I'm cute, some have even tried to kidnap me while saying they like to make me their pet."

20. How do your characters handle emotions?

"I admit," said Trace, "I try to hide most of my emotions, I do have explosive anger; however."

"I like to be open with my feelings to the point where I'm pretty much transparent," said Tenny.

"I know I've played a few pranks on you," said Trace, "but you don't seem to get angry like you should."

Tenny laughed, "Well... I guess I try to suppress my anger after all."

"That's not good," said Trace, "Hope you're not planning on brutally maiming someone."

"Don't worry, I'm not," Tenny said with naive confidence.

21. Do your characters have other forms?

"I can turn my hands into chainsaws and chain guns," said trace as he transformed his right hand into a chainsaw and his left hand into a six barrel high-powered Gatling gun, "that has to count for something."

"Actually," said Tenny, "That would be a Gatling gun, it doesn't fire chain-linked bullets."

"but chain guns sounds cooler," replied Trace.

22. Do your characters overreact?

"Besides the whole soda thing," said Trace, "I'm sure I've overreacted before."

Tenny snickered.

"What!?" asked Trace.

"Oh, nothing," said Tenny, "Just remembering that time where you're all like "I'M DEAD, I'M DEAD!" while spazzing over the least little thing. You also blew all our money on liquor that day."

"Oh, come on!" retorted Trace, "When the episode's titled 'Trace Dies in the Inferno' how'd you expect me to react?"

(Note: 'Trace Dies in the Inferno' is a reference to the Mazinger Z episode 'Kouji Kabuto Dies in Lava' guess who didn't die?)

23. Are your characters criminals?

"Only because Animus set us up," said Trace.

24. Do your characters go to school?

"Passing the Cartoon Competency Exam has getting your G.E.D. or getting through high school as a requirement," said Trace, "We're not in any college; however."

25. What are their IQs?

"Too high to be idiots," said Tenny, "Too low to be logical."

26. Do your characters have a disease/curse?

"I hinted at this before," said Trace, "But we are a type of cartoon they refer to as 'requiem type B' and are feared due to our abilities to potentially kill humans and cartoons alike. I call it a curse because if we did not have this ability, we would not be in this mess."

27. Are your characters dead?

"As much as I hate to admit," said Trace, "so many people had died around me that I lost count. Friends, enemies, enemies that would've been friends under different circumstances. Hell, with the ways things are going, I'm halfway expecting Ten..."

Suddenly, Tenny pulled out a wooden sword from hammerspace and smacked Trace across the face with it.

"OW!" Trace winced in pain, "What was that for!?"

"Sorry," said Tenny, "but I don't want to die, so I'm not going to let you make any tragic allusions about me."

28. Do your characters have any family?

"Aside from Ten," said Trace, "There are nine others that are technically considered siblings, but we don't get along with most of them. They're pretty much sociopaths anyway. Oh, and don't get me started on 'Him'. He created us and now wants all of us to die. So yeah, one big happy dysfunctional F'ed up family we are."

29. Have they encountered any tragic times in their lives?

"Must I really talk about this," scoffed Trace, "It's the story of my life, anyone who's a friend was either really the enemy, a traitor, or dead."

"here he goes being cynical again." remarked Tenny.

30. What's the best time in your characters' life?

"Probably my date with that rabbit," said Trace, "before it went straight to hell."

"Finally passing the Cartoon Competency Exam," said Tenny, "and I wouldn't been able to do it without my brother here."

31. If you could name 1 friend, which would you relate to your characters the most?

(Note: There are a few characters that have yet to be introduced that are based on friends of mine, but I will definitely attribute the cartoon setting itself to Anna. Without her stating that this story might be a decent idea, I probably would've resumed working on my super-depressing android story. Of course, it seems some of those elements from that said super-depressing android story is making its way into this story, but at least I have the cartoon characters to lighten things up a bit and I can also do more with the fight scenes in a less realistic universe.)

32. Are your characters single?

"Yes," they both answered.

"I think I might have the same problem as the Cartwrights from Bonanza," said Trace.

33. Do they have an element?

"Fire," said Trace, "I Hotbloodly solve my problems."

"I'd say I'm mostly water." said Tenny.

34. Do you roleplay your characters?

"I think we were going to be characters in a jRPG style video game at one time," said Trace.

*non canon flashback*

"There's no way in hell I'm pointing this gun at my head!" exclaimed Trace. Next to him was 'Definitely Not The Protagonist From Persona 3' lying there, gun in hand, in a pool of blood with a bullet hole in his head.

*/non canon flashback*

35. Do you write about your characters?

(Note: Ironically, I tend to memorize most of the plot points in this series rather than write them down. I do write about them sometimes before deciding that was the wrong route to take the series.)

36. Do your characters have a bad tempers at times?

"Let's just say I can get really violent at times and leave it at that," said Trace.

"I try not to get angry," said Tenny.

(Note: when Trace's anger reaches the limit, there's a good chance that whoever caused his anger will die by his hands. Fortunately, he only gets that angry over life or death situations.)

37. Do your characters get depressed?

"We do," said Tenny, "But despite the world doing everything in its power to make us miserable, I try to look on the bright side of things. Like how comfy this chair is."

38. What's your characters favorite animal?

"Probably demon dogs," said Trace, "If they existed, it would be badass."

"I like those chinxers," said Tenny, "it's amazing how they were only just discovered a few years ago."

39. Do your characters have any fears?

"I used to have a fear of needles," said Trace, "but after getting skewered with throwing knives once, needles don't bother me much anymore."

"I still have nightmares over some of the assassins I faced," said Tenny.

"That's natural," said Trace, "The artists purposely makes them scary as a form of psychological warfare."

40. Do your characters have any weaknesses?

"My anger sometimes causes more harm that good," said Trace, "I've been known to have things tactically planned, but my anger always causes those plans to be changed for the worse."

"When I get scared by something," said Tenny, "it's difficult to control my panic."

41. Do your characters look up to anyone?

"My brother," said Tenny happily.

"I used to look up to 'Him'" Trace said, "Not so much these days."

42. Do your characters like music?

"Yes, I like certain types of music," said Trace.

"Me too," Tenny added.

43. What are your characters favorite type of music?

"Rock, Jazz, and Classical," said Trace, "especially when they use electric guitars as part of the band."

"I'm more Smooth Jazz/Techno," remarks Tenny, "I like to find music that has hardly been listen to on the internet, found some good ones too."

44. Are they impatient?

"I can be," said Trace, "Is this interview over yet?".

(Note: not yet.)

"Damn!" Trace somehow responded to the note.

"I'm more patient than my brother," said Tenny, "though not by a whole lot."

45. What's something funny about them?

"When my brother goes into his hotblooded passionate mode," said Tenny, "It's so funny to watch him melodramatically react to everything mundane."

"When I pull a prank on Ten, his reaction is always priceless." Trace said, "I remembered during that party where I spiked the fruit punch with a whole bunch of vodka, Ten was..." Trace started to break out in hysterical laughter, "...he thought he was fishing in the aquarium." Trace continued to laugh. Tenny looked shocked and embarrassed.

46. Name 5 nicknames.

Trace regained his composure, "We pretty much refer to each other by our nicknames, for example, even though my name is Tres as in Spanish for three, I hate to be referred to as a number, so I demand my name to be spelt 'Trace'. I call Tenny 'Ten' because it sounds cooler. It's probably a good thing that Ten does not mind being named after a number."

"To me," added Tenny, "It's just a name. No need to make it serious business."

47. Do your characters curse?

"Every damn day," Trace stated plainly.

"Not if I can keep from it," Tenny said.

48. What do your characters think of this quiz?

"The torture was too long," said Trace.

"Oh come on," retorted Tenny, "it wasn't that bad. Some of the questions could be combined; however."

49. What does your characters want to have on their tombstones?

"Peperoni, mushrooms, with extr...wait a minute," Trace said as he began to notice the walls having heavy artillery guns suddenly mounted on walls and pointed at both him and Tenny. The interviewer was nowhere in sight.

"GET DOWN!!!" yelled Trace as he pushed Tenny to the ground as the air began to be saturated with fired ammunition. When the gunfire cleared the room was demolished, but two portable holes were stuck to the floor.

Trace and Tenny were outside the studio the interview took place at while trying to escape the danger they were in, but maniacal laughter was heard.

50. I expected nothing less out of you two, but this is where you will die.

The interviewer hovered before them, he was wearing a jet pack with all sorts of heavy weapons attached to it and a slasher smile.

"Just nice!" said Trace before transforming his hand into a chainsaw, "Torture and execution, who's idea was it to go to this interview anyway?"

"Yours!" Tenny snapped back, he was armed with a kodachi in both hands and ten portable holes with hands armed with knives floated behind him.

"Oh well," said Trace, "Looks like this is going to be one hell of a good...DAY!" he said while pulling the pull string of his chainsaw hand with his teeth, starting it up.

(Note: This quiz showed me that I still need to tweak these characters some. If you notice any particular mannerism that Trace or Tenny showed, tell me and I'll try to expand on them.)
